Artist Books are a wonderfully diverse genre and my work is much the same. I'm fascinated by structures and boxes, both traditional and invented. Most of the books included here have some unique sculptural or spacial element to them.

Reimagined: The Artist's Book | Cannon Gallery, City of Carlsbad

Reimagined: The Artist’s Book
Feb. 26 – May 14, 2022

What happens when the worlds of art and books intersect? The resulting spectrum ranges from innovatively designed books to unique and beautifully sculpted artist books. Imagine an artist looking at the very concept of printed material, such as a book, and seeing the raw material for a new and exciting work of art. The objects in this exhibition interpret the concept of the book, exploring altering book structures into sculpture or sculptural objects whose only reference to book-ness might be the inclusion of words. The creative force of the featured artists is demonstrated by their ingenuity in reimagining book forms, decorating in new ways and using unconventional materials.

The William D. Cannon Art Gallery is a program of the City of Carlsbad’s Library & Cultural Arts.

STUDIO VISIT 2020

Rhiannon Alpers

STUDIO VISIT: The Art + Architecture Faculty Triennial
LOCATION: Thatcher Gallery, University of San Francisco, CA
EXHIBITION DATES: March 3 - April 8, 2020

The Thatcher Gallery presents a recent art and design exhibition by twenty-seven University of San Francisco faculty alongside the spaces/studios in which these works were made.

There is a long-held fascination with artists’ studios. The spaces utilized by these USF artists run the gamut, from a home studio to a design collective, a secluded barn to a converted warehouse, a technology-cluttered desk to a print shop on wheels. Some have no walls or structure; the artists’ subjects--nature or an urban market--have become the studio. Determined by practical matters such as tools and economy as well as creative processes, they offer insight into the essential elements that support and define each artist’s practice.
